Good Day Good Night is a photobook by Hong Kong photographer, South Ho.
Traversing through the days and nights of the two months of the Umbrella Movement in Hong Kong in 2014, the photographic works of South Ho intentionally avoid scenes of howling protests; instead he reverts to the quotidian perspective of the occupier, documenting another kind of landscape which is quiet and calm. These images constitute also the artist’s own confession in regards to the movement – where passion and loss interweave into a tangled sense of paradox and futility.
ARTIST STATEMENT
“Good day good night,” coming from strangers, who are also fellows. It is a simple yet strong sentence, which makes me still feel warm about this city. — South Ho
